Meet the FORCE Team
At FORCE (Forecasting Operations for Research Campaigns and Experiments), our team brings together expertise in numerical weather prediction (NWP), atmospheric science, IT systems, and software development. With extensive experience in high-resolution forecasting, model development, and data visualization, we ensure that our forecasts provide valuable insights for research campaigns and operational decision-making.
-
Dr. Ralph Burton – Senior Research Scientist
Ralph is a Senior Research Scientist at NCAS with over 15 years of experience working with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. His expertise includes modeling and aircraft observations of emissions from vent systems and oil and gas platforms, as well as high-resolution forecasting for research campaigns.
-
James Groves – IT Manager
James is the NCAS IT Manager, with over 20 years of experience in Linux systems, numerical models, and high-performance computing. He plays a key role in managing FORCE’s computing infrastructure, ensuring that our forecasting systems run efficiently and reliably.
-
Laurents Marker – Software Developer
Laurents is a software developer at NCAS, leading the development of a visualization platform that provides researchers with interactive NWP tools for campaign decision-making. His work ensures that FORCE’s forecasting outputs are accessible, insightful, and actionable.
-
Dr. Alexander Roberts – Researcher & Forecaster
Alexander is a researcher and modeller at NCAS, specializing in numerical weather prediction and forecasting for research campaigns. His work includes extensive use of satellite data to develop nowcasting approaches for Africa, improving short-term weather predictions in data-sparse regions.
